Lane Press Achieves Triple Chain-of-Custody Certification
In keeping with our dedication to environmentally sound printing practices, Lane Press now holds chain-of-custody certifications from the world's three leading forest management programs: the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Lane Press has held FSC certification since 2007. Adding SFI and PEFC certifications expands the pool of chain-of-custody certified paper stocks from which our customers can now choose.

FSC, SFI, and PEFC are independent, non-profit, non-government organizations devoted to the responsible management of the world’s forests. These programs aim to slow global damage to forests and promote environmental responsibility.

Chain-of-Custody certification is the process of tracking the movement of certified wood fiber from forest to mill and then from mill or merchant to printer, each of whom must be certified. This certification guarantees the integrity of the supply chain and assures end-use customers that the certified goods they buy are genuinely the products of well-managed forests. A secure Chain-of-Custody requires that certified products are identified through the use of labels, proper handling, and appropriate documentation.

To achieve certification from these groups, Lane Press has undergone rigorous third-party audits of our purchasing practices and tracking and control systems. The Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood Program (FSC) and the Price Waterhouse Coopers Chain-of-Custody Certification Program (SFI/PEFC) will continue to audit our systems on an annual basis.

Chain-of-Custody Logos
When Lane Press customers choose to print with FSC, SFI, or PEFC paper, they are eligible to display the appropriate logo in their publications.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
fsc_125.gif“Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.” (-FSC)

There are seven different FSC Chain-of-Custody labels. The one is used on a specific product is determined by the product's fiber makeup. FSC-certified paper can contain a combination of 3 different types of fiber: FSC-certified virgin fiber, recycled fiber, and controlled-source fiber.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)

There are four different SFI Chain-of-Custody labels. As with FSC, the one used on a specific product is determined by the product’s fiber makeup.

Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)
pefc125.gif“Products with a PEFC claim and/or label deliver confidence that the raw material originates in sustainably managed forests.” (-PEFC)

There are two versions of the PEFC logo. Both versions indicate the percentage of PEFC-certified raw material (minimum of 70%), while the second also indicates the percentage of PEFC recycled material.
