Resolving InDesign Type Problems If you use InDesign CS4 for page layout, it’s possible you have encountered type problems with some exported PDF files. For example, some of our customers have had type characters drop out or be converted to symbol glyphs, such as rectangles and question marks. Worflow Tips Controlling TAC in Images An important part of producing a good print project is designing within the limits of commercial printing processes and materials (e.g. presses, binding equipment, paper stock, to name a few). This article outlines the techniques available for detecting and fixing problems relating to ink coverage (also called Total Area Coverage, or 'TAC'). This issue requires special attention because a job that has areas of heavy TAC can create problems on press such as ‘marking,’ ‘blistering,’ and ‘blocking’. InSite Tip #1: Setting Auto-login Tired of typing in your username and password every time you log into InSite? There's a simple way to set your browser to remember these credentials and auto-fill them when you go to the InSite landing page. InSite Tip #2: Customizing Your Smart Review Window The current version of the InSite Smart Review screen defaults to showing all window panels, which have to be closed every time you open the window. Calibrating Today's Ultra-Bright Monitors You may have noticed that the monitors on the market today are considerably brighter than those from just a few years ago. This has its upsides with brighter colors and sharper contrast, but it poses a vexing problem as well: These newer monitors are unnaturally bright when compared to print media, making it difficult to achieve an accurate on-screen representation of digital images. Call on Lane Press Technical Support Services Often customers will call us with a problem they've struggled with for hours, only to discover that we have run into this same problem before and have a solution ready for them to implement. If we don’t have a solution at hand, we will research the problem until we can provide one. |
