| Natural Source Printing Introduces Tree-Free Paper Made From Stone |
|
Natural Source Printing (NSP), an FSC Certified and Carbon-neutral
source for sustainable, eco-friendly printing, packaging, and marketing
materials, has introduced FiberStone Papers—a line of tree-free, waterproof, low
carbon footprint papers. So far, NSP has been producing labels, unit
cartons, POP displays, casepacks, brochures, catalogs, annual reports,
and high-quality pressure-sensitive labels on the stone paper material.
FiberStone Tree-Free paper comes from an abundant renewable, sustainable resource: limestone. In a nutshell, the paper is made from 80% Calcium Carbonate with a small amount (20%) of non-toxic resin called High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). The Calcium Carbonate comes from linestone collected as waste material from existing quarries. It is ground to a fine powder, like chalk, and the HDPE is used as a binder. Combined, these materials create a substrate that is water- and tear-resistant.
FiberStone Paper is using with a clean production process that does not
utilize water or emit toxic air and uses less energy than virgin fiber or recyled paper production. The stone-based paper is free of bleach,
acid, and other chemicals.
Mary Loyer, President of Natural Source Printing, states, "More and more green conscious companies are focusing on sustainable and low carbon footprint materials. Our FiberStone Tree-Free Papers have a carbon footprint that is at least 1/3 that of virgin paper, half that of recycled paper."
According to Natural Source Printing, the production of one ton of FiberStone Paper can eliminate the consumption of:
