| New Press Stacker Improves Quality for Bindery |
|
At Lane Press, we're constantly assessing available technological advances and selectively integrating them into our workflow to make your jobs easier and to improve the quality of the product we produce on your behalf. We like to keep you up to date on these efforts and will continue to do so from time to time in this newsletter. Most recently, we installed a Gämmerler vertical stacker on one of our highest speed presses. A stacker is a vital piece of equipment in the production process. It sits at the end of the press, receives the raw signatures from the press folder, and stacks them into logs or bundles, which are then delivered to the finishing area for binding. If the resulting bundle is rough along the edges (pages not stacked right on top of each other), it is more difficult to feed the signatures into bindery equipment. This can result in slower processing through the bindery because equipment can jam and require restarting. If the bundles are tight and smooth at the edges, often referred to as a "solid brick," the signatures are more likely to sail through the bindery without any hold-up. The particular features of the stacker we installed produce high quality bundles, and also minimize the chances that the ink on signatures will smear when the pages are stacked. The advanced design of the stacker also minimizes jams, keeping the press moving at high speeds, and reduces waste, an excellent cost saver. We integrated this stacker into our pressroom to enable us to produce higher quality bundles for our bindery and to ensure optimal quality of your printed product, while improving the speed and efficiency of the press. With this addition, we now have the same model stacker on both of our highest speed presses.
