Lane Press Customers Selected for FOLIO 40

Two Lane Press customers—TechTarget and Rhode Island Monthly—were named to the 2005 FOLIO: 40 list, the industry’s oldest and most prestigious list of top innovators and influencers. The list highlights 40 publishing professionals across four categories: C-Level Visionaries, Director-Level Doers, Under the Radar, and Industry Innovators. FOLIO: chose the honorees based on “quantifiable results that demonstrate the impact of their ideas and initiatives.”

TechTarget CEO Named C-Level Visionary

Greg Strakosch, co-founder and CEO of TechTarget, was one of ten C-Level Visionaries selected and the only IT media executive. In the words of the FOLIO: judges, Strakosch is an executive “whose ideas and creativity, along with successful implementation, have driven business in surprising new directions.”  His role in building TechTarget into a media company with integrated print, events, and online content was sited by FOLIO: 40 as instrumental in this recognition.

“TechTarget has made its name making bold pronouncements and even bolder moves,” the FOLIO: staff wrote. “From the start, it shook up magazine publishers with a web-first approach to content and communities in the giant, but hurting IT space.”

Rhode Island Monthly Publisher Recognized as an “Under the Radar” Executive

John Palumbo, publisher of Rhode Island Monthly, was recognized as one of the “Under the Radar” executives “whose behind-the-scenes efforts have been instrumental in driving success for their companies.”

Publishing in a small market was a boon for the magazine. Under Palumbo’s guidance, Rhode Island Monthly brought in more sophisticated categories of advertisers, including national brands. Because of its size, Rhode Island makes an ideal test market for new products. Pravda vodka tapped the magazine for a trial and quickly upgraded to a 12-time schedule. “Coming out of the newspaper world,” said Palumbo, “I understand the value of promotions.”

Other promotions under Palumbo’s direction include custom work, new and rejuvenated ancillaries and using Rhode Island as a test market. These initiatives were all sited as reasons for selecting Palumbo for the FOLIO: 40.
