Lane Press Announces Expanded Logistics and Distribution Services

Lane Press is pleased to announce the significant expansion of our logistics and distribution services.  Lane Press now offers a full range of mailing and distribution options, including local mail entry, dynamic mail entry, co-palletization, co-mailing, foreign freight forwarding, less-than-truckload optimization and a logistics planning service to optimize the time and cost associated with mailing publications.  These services are available through an expansion of our existing relationship with RR Donnelley Logistics (RRDL), the nation’s largest mailer of printed material.

In the next twelve months, over 100 million magazines, catalogs, and other printed material will cross our loading docks, enter trucks and scatter to readers all over the globe.  Much of this material goes by way of the United States Postal Service (USPS).  In fact, Lane Press is the second largest single source of outbound mail in the state of Vermont.  While this affords us a certain amount of leverage, it is a clear indication of just how beholden we all are to the USPS.

The most recent rate case approved for the USPS has placed the onus on printers and publishers to take advantage of mailing automation.  The farther we can get the mail into the postal stream and the more automated the process, the less expensive the postal tariff.  With increases as high as 40% for some mailers, the ability to comply with the USPS direction is essential.  Lane Press, like other major printers, has accepted the challenge to serve as the distribution and logistics agent for our publishing customers, navigating the onerous postal regulations and battling the rate increases.

As a result, we have gone through an exhaustive search to identify the best partner for drop-shipping, co-palletization and co-mailing services.  The culmination was an extension of our long-standing relationship with RRDL to provide extensive distribution services.  In addition, we created a logistics planning and analysis service in our Customer Service department to sort through the postal regulations and distribution options to ensure that the distribution of each issue of each publication is time and cost optimized.

Lana Metayer in Customer Service, with the support and expertise of Distribution Manager, Lynda Hurley, heads Lane Press’s logistics planning and analysis function.  Please contact your Lane Press Customer Service Representative or your Sales Executive to explore the use of these expanded services for your business.
