| Lane Press Improves Finishing Capabilities with Equipment Upgrades |
|
Lane Press is pleased to announce several new upgrades in our Finishing department. These upgrades are intended to increase our capabilities, our efficiency, and the quality of work produced for our customers. We have invested in several new pieces of bindery equipment, including a saddlestitcher, a perfect binder, and an upgraded inkjet control system. The new saddlestitcher will run at speeds of up to 15,000 books per hour (bph), nearly doubling the speed of our current stitcher. The stitcher has a total of 20 pockets, which means that publishers who produce numberous versions of their magazines will be able to vary more elements per version. Additionally, this stitcher can accomodate inkjetting parallel to the spine of a magazine as well as inside and outside of the publication. The new perfect binder will also produce speeds of 15,000 and has 24 pockets, an increase of 4 pockets from our current binder. This increase will allow Lane Press to accomodate perfect bound magazines of higher page counts. Additionally, this machine features increased flexibility for inserts. It can blow or bind in a higher number of inserts as well as provide more options in terms of insert placement. The new inkjet control system features the most current controller technology available and was installed on all of our binding lines. This standardization enables Lane Press to be more streamlined and efficient in managing our inkjet system. While customers will not see any direct changes in inkjetting capabilities as a result of this upgrade, it will contribute to our overall effort to decrease manufacturing costs. The equipment upgrades began in late Summer with the installation of the new inkjet systems and a new mail server. The upgrades then proceeded to the installation of the perfect binder this Fall, and will be completed in January with the installation of the stitcher. With these bindery upgrades, Lane Press continues to invest in technology and equipment necessary to maintain a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet our customers' magazine production needs and to contain the costs of print production.
